Help › Live Labs
Live Labs are the city's video rooms — working sessions, not webinars.
What a Live Lab is
A live, interactive session. You bring a real problem or a build you are stuck on; the room works it through with you. Sessions are run with AI assistants and human oversight, and are announced in the community beforehand.
Joining
- Watch the community for the session announcement, which carries the room link.
- Open the link — it runs in your browser, so there is nothing to install.
- Allow microphone and camera when your browser asks. You are welcome to join with sound only.
- Use the same display name as your community account so people know who they are talking to.
Before you join
- Use headphones. It prevents an echo loop that makes the room unusable for everyone.
- Test your sound in the room's settings before the session starts, not when it is your turn to speak.
- Close heavy applications. Video calls share your computer's resources.
- Use a supported browser — a current Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari works best.
Room etiquette
- Mute when you are not speaking.
- Raise your hand rather than talking over someone.
- Keep screen shares to the thing you are asking about.
- Do not record a session unless the host has said you may, and never record other members without their consent.
If it does not work
- No sound: check you are not muted in the room and in your operating system, and that the right device is selected.
- No video: check the browser has camera permission for the site, and that no other application is holding the camera.
- Cannot connect: some corporate and school networks block the ports video calls need. Try a different network or a phone hotspot.
- Echo: almost always two people on speakers in the same room — headphones fix it.
