Help › The community
The forum is the heart of the city. Here is how it works.
What the community is for
- Asking questions between lessons, and answering other people's.
- Sharing what you built, what broke, and what you learned.
- Announcements about Live Labs, new lessons and community events.
- Meeting other members — it is a working community, not a broadcast channel.
Finding your way around
- Categories group discussions by subject or track. Read a category's description before posting if you are unsure where something belongs.
- Latest shows everything new. Top shows what the community found most useful.
- Tags cut across categories — useful when you are following one topic across several areas.
Posting well
- Search before you post — someone may have asked it already.
- Give the question a specific title. “Excel formula help” beats “help!!”.
- Include what you tried and what happened. The detail is what makes an answer possible.
- One question per topic. It makes the answers findable for the next person.
- Mark the answer that solved it, so the next reader gets there in one step.
Notifications
You control what you are told about. You can follow a category, a tag or a single topic, and choose whether you are told about every reply or only when someone mentions you. Your full notification preferences are in your profile settings.
Moderation
Moderators are members and staff who keep the place workable. They can edit titles, move topics, close threads and, rarely, remove posts or members. Moderation decisions can be appealed to human staff. The full detail is in the guidelines and the moderation policy.
Private messages
You can message members and staff directly. Keep sensitive personal information out of both public topics and private messages — we cannot protect what you paste.
